Ferrari Challenge Europe – Schirò and Kirchmayr, first triumphs at Brno

rno, 29 May 2021 - The historic, spectacular Brno circuit offered two maiden podiums in the third round of the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli. In a race where the spectators were finally present again, albeit within the limits of restrictions imposed due to the health emergency, Niccolò Schirò (Rossocorsa) won the elite class on his comeback, while stalwart Ange Barde (SF Côte d’Azur Cannes) claimed another win in the Am class. In the Coppa Shell, a triumph for Ernst Kirchmayr (Baron Motorsport) and for Willem Van Der Vorm (Scuderia Monte-Carlo) among the Am entries.

rofeo Pirelli. Niccolò Schirò’s return to the Trofeo Pirelli turned out to be a winning one. After dominating free practice on Friday and taking fourth place in qualifying, the Italian driver earned the triumph thanks to a blistering start that saw him outstrip both the leader of the general standings Michelle Gatting (Scuderia Niki – Iron Lynx) and Luka Nurmi (Formula Racing) who accompanied him on the podium in that order.

Trofeo Pirelli AM. The AM class also saw some major upheavals in the order in the early stages, with Ange Barde able to take the lead before two Safety Cars entrances, triggered first by Sergio Paulet (Santogal Madrid – MST Team) going off-track, then Alessandro Cozzi (Formula Racing) later. Behind the French driver, an excellent runner-up spot for Christian Brunsborg (Formula Racing), now leader in the overall class standings, while third was Italian driver Tommaso Rocca (Rossocorsa).

Coppa Shell. Ernst Kirchmayr made the better start, getting the better of pole-sitter and leader of the standings James Weiland (Rossocorsa) at the first corner and then fending off the American’s attacks right through until the chequered flag. Axel Sartingen (Lueg Sportivo) made it onto the third step of the podium, producing a noteworthy race.

Coppa Shell AM. Willem Van Der Vorm transformed the morning’s pole position into a win, after an authoritative yet steady race amongst drivers of a higher class. After a spin forced Joakim Olander (Scuderia Autoropa) to withdraw from the race, prompting a brief Safety Car intervention, Giuseppe Ramelli (Rossocorsa – Pellin Racing) was able to take second on the podium and took over the lead of the general standings. Third place went to another Italian, Paolo Scudieri (SA.MO.CAR).

Schedule. Qualifying for the Coppa Shell and Trofeo Pirelli will take place tomorrow from 09:00, while the races get underway at 14:30 and 15:45 respectively. The live broadcast, with English commentary, can be viewed at live.ferrari.com website.
