The Report
One day on from a historic performance in the Italian capital, Maserati MSG Racing continued it points scoring run with a double top-six finish in the second part of the 2023 Rome E-Prix.

After returning to the podium with Maximilian Günther on Saturday, the team built upon its performance overnight to approach Sunday with renewed momentum in its 2023 campaign.

An extensive repair job during the night, which saw a rebuild of Edoardo Mortara’s #48 Maserati Tipo Folgore, allowed both drivers to participate in Race Two in Rome.

The duo launched their qualifying efforts from Group B, and although Edo narrowly missed out on the duels, Max progressed to the next stage to start sixth, with Edo lining up ninth on the grid.

Showing strong pace over long-distance running, the pair settled into a good energy-saving rhythm at the start of the race, with Max holding eighth while Edo battled to seventh on lap one.

An accident between Mitch Evans and Nick Cassidy caused a Safety Car on lap two, but when the race was restarted on lap four, Edo and Max resumed their rise through the field.

Now holding fifth and seventh, both drivers activated their first Attack Mode on lap eight, and after consolidating a place inside the top 10, activated their final use of the 350kW mode on lap 17.

By undercutting Envision’s Sebastien Buemi, Edo advanced to fourth while an overtake on Dan Ticktum pushed Max forward to sixth.

Edo continued to push until the chequered flag and unfortunately missed out on the podium by less than one second, but by finishing fourth, secured his best finish of the current campaign to date.

Max, meanwhile, finished sixth to score an additional eight points, with the team scoring 35 points over the course of the Rome E-Prix weekend.

With 130 points, Maserati MSG Racing continues to hold sixth in the World Teams’ Championship, only 23 points shy of a place inside the top five in the standings.

The FIA Formula E World Championship’s 2023 season will resume and conclude in London on 29-30 July.
